We went to downtown Raleigh to see what the hype was all about for the 4th of July and we were so disappointed. This was the 1st year they changed things up a bit - Raleigh usually has their fireworks at the fairgrounds with all the usual venders and rides...like a mini fair. But this year they put this even on 1 large stretch of street (Fayetteville Street) in the middle of downtown with the same venders and it was a joke. When it was finally time for fireworks, most of everyone started their way down Fayetteville Street and all of a sudden everyone stopped - it was a traffic jam, literally. It was so hot from all the bodies and then the fireworks started and not one (well maybe 3) went high enough over the large sky scraper buildings. The little people couldn't see so between 3 adults and 6 of the little ones, we had a few on each of our shoulders. NO JOKE. I got one picture in.

We stayed at a beautiful cabin in Taney Town, MD for that weekend and this cabin was surrounded by corn fields! Michael didn't like that!! I guess we were so busy that these are the only 2 pictures I captured while we were there.
The Sunday we checked out of the cabin, we ventured to Emmitsburg, MD to visit the Basilica and National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (http://www.setonheritage.org)
this was such a beautiful and peaceful place
Then we drove 3 miles to the National Shrine Grotto of Lourdes at Mt. St. Mary's University (http://www.msmary.edu/grotto) where we spent the last 4 hours of our trip!
